Historical Cavalry/Military Costumes:
Where the riders wear uniforms, the horses have standard issued tack, and in a group all look similar except for the emblems of rank and reward. These costumes should be dated from before 1960.

Comment: McClellan Saddle and Civil War Union Cavalry Officer. Captain George B. McClellan toured Europe with an Army commission looking at new military tactics. He returned and developed a new modified cavalry saddle. In 1859, the U.S. War Department adopted the McCLELLAN SADDLE. The McClellan Saddle remained the standard issue throughout the history of the horse cavalry. The original M1859 version was the form used during the Civil War. A surcingle was part of the engineering design of this saddle. The Halter was used under the Headstall, with one end of the Lead Strap (the buckle end) hooked to the Halter and the other end, plus the excess, looped through a saddle ring.
